"L' État, c'est moi."
— "I am the State" — a 16 year old brat, Louis XIV, in his alleged address to the Parlement de Paris, April 13, 1655.
In the pantheon of history, absolute loyalty [1] frequently serves as an undercurrent for idolatry. At times, this obsession reaches reverence akin to that shown for the Sun King's illustrious dynasty, only to be decapitated roughly three generations later.
Despite the clearly corrupt overkill of his administration’s nominee line-up [2], Trump’s comically incompetent cortège of demagogic grifters [3], homeopaths [4], eugenicists [5], sexual predators [6], young Earth creationists [7], conspiracy quacks [8], science deniers [9], and National-Security risks [10] paints a tableau of illiterate jesters, not a court of educated noblemen — gesturing that the doomed march of his star-studded ‘Turd Estate’ toward the gallows maybe be sharply foreshortened.

When does apathy for the evil plans of stupid people become accepted in the cultural narrative as a 'necessary evil,' and at what point do even the apathetic decide it has gone too far? Given one-liners as provocatively memorable as "I alone can fix it" [11] spiked with distressing claims about having "complete and total immunity" [12], is too farfetched to compare the crescendo of Trump’s madness to the personality cult that once surrounded the former resident of Versailles?
[more here on the atmosphere in the room].
In truth, the coronation of Bourbon monarchs was a divine appointment, while Trump’s rise came courtesy of a misinformed popular vote. Perhaps, when the golden icon begins to tarnish, will buyer’s remorse set in faster than court minstrels spin their tales?
